The Missing Link …
I was watching some television today. Actually not watching the shows, I just had it on for background noise. There aren’t alot of shows that can keep me glued to the tube, but for some reason the damn thing is on all the time. I dont like silence.
Anyhow, while watching Roseanne and seeing the new Becky, after the real Becky left and then returned, I began thinking about how shows get away with stuff like that.
I mean in real life I couldn’t just replace my sister with some other girl for a little while until she was ready to be apart of our family. Anyhow, how important WAS Becky on that show. I mean, couldnt they just send her off to Band Camp or something.
They did it in Bewitched also, when they replaced Darren with another Darren. Unbelievably, they actually did a good job on that one. The new Darren looks alot like the old Darren … down to their names, Dick York and Dick Sargeant.
Worse though, than replacing someone right in the middle of a show, is getting rid of them all together. Remember, Happy Days. What the hell happened to Richie’s older brother, Chuck?? He was there the first season and then bam, where the hell did he go. They never talked about him, they never had pictures of him … he was just sucked into the TV vacuum.
The TV execs must think we are pretty stupid. Umm … they’ll never think about that kid again … they won’t notice a new Becky.. I mean they are both blonde.
One last thing … did Mr. and Mrs. Brady’s ex’s die. Wouldn’t those kids miss their mom and dad. The ones we never heard about or saw. I mean, Mr. Brady must’ve had a wife at some point to create those “three boys of his own”.
