Plays Well With Others

The Visit …

So, there’s some whackpoop on the news saying that we’re going to be visited by extraterrestrial life today between noon and 5PM – Mountain Time. The clincher is that they’ll be appearing over the Olympics in a cigar shaped craft.

Erm. Yeah. Has anyone ever heard of the Goodyear blimp? Secondly, the air force has standing orders to shoot down anything that flies into the air space over the Olympics, so if they do appear today, chances are that they’ll end up dead. Great. Our chance to finally talk to beings from another planet and now we are going to shoot them down.

Ugh. I’d find it strange that an unidentified flying object could come into U.S. airspace when our own airplanes are surrounded when a passenger gets unruly. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

This lady is probably going to just end up making up something when it doesnt happen.

Another fun news item has to do with coworkers stealing food from the company refrigerator. Seems this guy brought his lunch to work everyday and would put it in the company refrigerator to store until lunchtime. When lunchtime would arrive, he’d find the parts of his lunch were missing. Seems that some of his coworkers were helping themselves to his food. So, he decided that he’d make some brownies and add laxatives to the mix, obviously in an attempt to catch the perpetrator.

The next day he put his lunch in the refrigerator and when lunchtime rolled around, he found that the brownies were missing. Later in the day, he found that a handful of his coworkers were getting sick and rushing to the bathroom.

Now here’s the interesting part. These coworkers are now suing this guy for pain and suffering and personal embarassment. How do you like them apples?

Personally, I feel that these coworkers got what they deserved. The lunch belonged to this guy, and he didnt offer the brownies to them. They just helped themselves. In essence they STOLE the brownies from this guys personal property, even though it was stored in a community refrigerator. Any embarassment they suffered, they inflicted on themselves. Also, maybe the guy had a bowel problem and brought in the brownies for his own medical reasons. Anyhow, if they win any money off this case, I’d certainly appeal.

And, I NEVER use the company refrigerator. I’ve heard too many stories of people helping themselves to food in there. Plus there are SOOOO many signs about not taking other people’s food on the door. It’s just unbelievable that anyone would take food that isnt theirs. Of course, if I ever want to get rid of something in my house, I just bring it to work and leave it on a table. Within five minutes it will be gone. It amazes me really. With so many diseases and stuff that could be put in food to make you sick, it amazes me that people would be so willing to eat some random food left on a table.

Has anyone seen the Mona Lisa? How about the Sistene Chapel? The Statue of Liberty? My point is that we all have a certain image in our heads about how these things are going to look, and most are usually disappointed when they see them in person.

How do you imagine the Mona Lisa? Probably as a huge painting in some gallery, right? Wrong. It’s really just about the size of a regular piece of paper. Tiny, in fact. When I when to New York, I was able to get a glimpse and could barely see it, because of the crowd of people in front of it. It hung low on the wall, about five feet off the ground and was so small that the gathering of people in front of it, covered it up. It didnt impress me at all. In fact, I was more impressed by various other, less known, paintings in the gallery than that particular one. So, what made it so famous anyhow?

How about the Statue of Liberty? Well in my head, I imagined it just enormous. Just unbelievably high in the sky, almost as tall as a skyscraper. Unfortunately, when I got there, I found that the actual statue was probably as tall as a two to three story building, with a base just as tall. Sure it’s a big statue. But not nearly as tall as I pictured in my head. A slight disappointment. It was still cool to see it, but just slightly less cool, if that makes any sense.

And the Sistene Chapel? I haven’t seen this one, but in my head I imagine it just breathtakingly huge. Of course, I’ve heard that the chapel is tiny and that a crowd can barely fit in the building. Probably another disappointment.

Maybe it’s hard to not be disappointed these days. I mean, everything is made out to be larger than life and when you finally get to see these monumental landmarks in person, they just dont live up to the hype. It’s really too bad.

When I go on vacation, of course, I want to see the big attractions. I mean, I definately wanted to see the Statue of Liberty, not because I had any ties to the thing. It’s not like my family sailed over on the Mayflower and landed at the Statue to take care of immigration issues. [And yes, I know the Mayflower came before the Statue of Liberty did, so put down your email fingers. Ugh.] I wanted to see it because it was a “must see” for New York.

It’s also one reason I dont plan vacations around landmarks. If I happen to be in the area and see it then it’s great, but it sure would have sucked to fly across the ocean to see the Mona Lisa and then find that it’s so small I could carry it out under my jacket.

Anyone else have experiences like this?
