Damn Kids!
What the hell is wrong with kids? How many times do I have to say this?
First, of course it’s wrong for kids to bring a gun to school and go on a shooting spree of their classmates … but more importantly, I think it just goes to show that alot of schools are totally unaware of what the kids are going through.
What is the same in most of these shooting cases? Some kid or group of kids have been taunted, teased and harrassed in school, and when they can’t take it anymore they decide to get back at those that are teasing and tormenting them.
I think schools need to play a more active role in the lives of the students … rather than acting as an educational factory, the schools need to start paying attention to the individual students … Most teachers are overburdened with class size to worry about each student individually, and most schools focus so much on academics that the kids getting teased and bullied are often left unnoticed.
It frightens me because I have a lot of friends who are teachers in schools around the country..it also worries me because someday I’ll have kids and have to worry about something like this happening.
When I was in school, the worse thing might have been a bomb threat, or a food fight … sure, there might have been weapons on campus … sure, kids were arrested in school for having weapons … but they were mainly carrying it as a show and tell, now kids just walk into the schools and begin shooting at random. As students who didnt befriend them, teachers that didnt notice them and at a principal that didnt protect them.
I was lucky … because I managed to be friends or at least liked by everyone. Sure I didnt have tons of friends, and I wasn’t the most popular, but I can say no one hated me. I had this way of being friends with both the popular kids and with the nerdy, dorky loner kids … I share things with both groups … if kids could only realize that they all go through the same problems and have similar feelings towards each other, they may be able to deal with things in a better way. We are all the same, we just live in different kinds of houses, and drive different kinds of cars..but at the root we are the same.
Maybe schools should start having a mandatory class the students must attend to deal with conflict or interpersonal problems … I think it would do alot of good. Should I run for the school board?
Let’s stop this insanity … I’d be interested in knowing your feelings on these school shooting stories.
Well, that was just going to be a small paragraph … so onto other news. I called the dealer to make an appointment about the malfunction light turning on … so I tell him the problem, and he’s like, What’s a malfuntion light?. Well, its a light that turns on when there is a fucking malfunction … what do you think it is? And this guy was one of the mechanics … hope it isnt mine.
So I have an appointment at 7AM on Wednesday.. that means dropping the car off and renting a car for the day.. last time I rented a car, I ended up with a GEO METRO … now, if you have one I’m sorry in advance, because that has to be the smallest car I’ve ever seen, aside from the urkel-mobile. I hate tiny cars … my car is as small as I’ll go.. this is smaller, its in the compact category. Someone nearly plowed into me last time … they probably didnt see me.
I think I’d die if I lived in a small town … by small, I’m talking like Main Street is downtown. I dont mind a small community … but not a tiny town.
Maybe I just have a thing against tiny things. I’d love to have a home in the country near a large lake … with neighbors nearby, but not so nearby that you can touch their house from your window.
I’m all for space exploration, but I think it’s ridiculous that a country can spend 1.3 million dollars on a little space thing and then lose it. How many millions of dollars worth of equipment are floating around in space … just polluting the atmosphere?
It’s turning into a damn space junkyard up there …
A certain journaler asked me to show my feelings more in my journal entries … so I put up an iMood indicator.
Did you really think I’d actually show feelings in here? haha … I might just shrivel up and die …
This coming weekend is “Mr. Hollands Opus” … I liked that movie … the ending made me cry like a baby when … well, if you haven’t seen it I won’t ruin it … but I enjoyed it.
Harrison Ford is on Letterman right now … he’s one of my favorite actors … not so much because of his acting ability, but because he seems so real … like when he’s interviewed it feels like that’s probably exactly how he is in person.. there is just something personable about him. Should I start a fan club … ?
Growing up I was in love with Alyssa Milano … you know from Who’s the Boss? and now Charmed.. she is still very appealing.. and all grown up, my age …
Then I moved onto Paula Abdul for a while.. she’s like hella older, but something very nice about her … in fact, I became very friendly with one of my schools cheerleaders who looked very much like Paula Abdul, except younger.. but she even had that little mole on her face …
As far a young actresses go … Natalie Portman is appealing, Katie Holmes looks sweet … I’m sure there are more … but I can’t think … see I’ve moved onto younger women, right Katie from Digital Ink. 🙂
Out There – Tom
The best laid plans, and all that … I woke up this morning, expecting to have beaten my alarm to the white noise. Instead, my eyes didn’t quite register what time it was. I thought it said 3:30 or something. But when my eyes registered, I goofed. 5:40 AM. Shit. In a blind panic, I was out the door like a shot, but it didn’t matter: I was about 45 minutes late for my shift. And I scored no brownie points with the overnight guy, either. Plus, I hadn’t showered, and was looking pretty rancid. AND it was 5 degrees in Flagstaff at 6:45 AM. “Yikes” just about covers it.
I like to give people who sign my guestbook a little credit..so the journal of the day goes to Tom.
As Tom describes himself, he’s a 27-year old gay guy living in Central Arizona … working as a radio announcer. Sounds like a really cool job … I mean who wouldnt want to be a radio announcer … when I hear Sarah and Vinnie on the radio in the morning … I think, wow, they have the most cool jobs in the world.
Tom’s site is text based, so it’s a change from the flashy graphic filled ones … but there is something to be said for simplicity …
The journal of the day isn’t just about promoting the popular sites that everyone visits, but it’s also about giving others a chance.. like the chances I’ve been given by so many of my wonderful readers and fellow journalists.
