Plays Well With Others

It`s Friday in Canada

It`s Friday in Canada and I`ve finally had time to post an entry, as promised, at least once a week. I left on Sunday to head towards Boston, or as they say there, BAHSTAN. My roommate dropped me off at the airport in San Francisco at the crack of dawn … around six AM to catch a seven AM flight. Got checked in with little problem and even manged to clear customs without being frisked or strip searched, not that I wouldnt have enjoyed that, but you know I was all dressed up and didnt want to wrinkle my suit.

As I was waiting to get on my flight, sitting in the waiting area, the lady behind me let out this humongous scream and as I turned around I saw what I thought was a cat running across the floor … turned out to be a nice fat rat. My standby flight was free and clear and I was told I wouldnt have any problem getting on, however I wasn`t going to get the first class accommodations that I`m clearly used to. Just kidding. So, I got stuck in the back of the plane with the rest of the common folks. I was fortunate enough though to have the chatty lady sitting next to me tell me all about her job and her son and her brother and husband and grandma … and then she left for a different seat so I got the whole row to myself. The flight was about five hours and they fed me a scrumptuous breakfast of hard-ass waffles, a dribbling of syrup, the tiniest orange juice I`ve ever seen … I was starting to long for the wonderful hospital food I got a few weeks ago.

I arrived in Boston around 3PM, grabbed my bags and headed for the hotel that was on the airport grounds hoping for a place to crash for the night. I dragged my two suitcases about three miles to the hotel, arrived at the counter, asked for room and the lady looks at me, writes on a piece of paper and says “these are our rates for the night”. The paper said, $250 … I said NO WAY and headed out of there. Thats more than my flight and just not worth it, especially when there is a really great bench waiting for me in the airport. Which is just where I spent the night, using my suitcase as a pillow, and four other people sleeping on the other benches. Not the Hilton, but well, it sucked, I can`t even try to make it sound good.

I woke up.. well, I never slept, but opened my eyes around 6AM and found a million people all around getting on their flights. You know, you could actually live in the airport. I mean there`s food and places to sleep and no one cares that you are sleeping on a bench. All you need is a couple of suitcases and you are set. Just a tip if you need to travel and dont want to pay for a room.

Anyhow, I was happy to leave Boston airport around 10AM and head to Montreal on the smallest freaking plane I`ve ever flown in. The flight attendant, the one lady, managed to serve a drink and a biscuit to us before the one hour flight arrived at the final destination. So, around 11AM I finally landed in Montreal … about fifteen minutes before it was scheduled to land. I got off the plane and had to wait for my carryon to be delivered to me, then I had to go to the baggage claim area and collect my final bag. Unfortunately for me, everything was in French and I didnt catch the part where they told me which area the bag would come out of. So, I followed the big group of people I assumed were coming off my flight and never got my bag. I did this about three times before I finally caught on to the system. Actually, my bag was the only one left in the airport, making it pretty easy to find.

After getting my bag I went through another customs area, and headed through some double doors out into the world … outside of airports where I had spent the last day and a half. I immediately looked up as I headed out the doors and saw Wifey™ standing there waiting for me. I sort of couldnt figure out how to get to her, because of all the gates leading people out of the baggage area but eventually we connected. I was extremely tired and jet-lagged and the welcome I was hoping to give her didnt really happen and instead we settled on a nice hug and headed off to her house, about an hour away giving us time to relax and get to know each other in person.

We arrived at her house, put the bags down and went at it right there on the bed. Actually, I like to think of it as “getting to know each other”. So now it`s five days later and we are having the best time. Still havent managed to go out and see anything, but that is our plan for today and next week. I mean, I should go outside and take some pictures so people dont think its just a booty call or something, Just kidding … anyhow, that`s my update for this week … I`ll try to do another one next week sometime.
