Plays Well With Others

Higher Definition…

After a month without it, my dvd/surround sound system came back from being repaired. I’ve been calling every week to get a status report on what exactly was going on and earlier this week someone finally told me that it’d been shipped out last week and should arrive Wednesday. With UPS tracking number in hand, I checked their website all day to find out if it’d been delivered or not. I DIDN’T want to miss this delivery or it’d mean driving all the way to the UPS hub about twenty minutes away and waiting around all night for the truck to pull in so they could give me my package. Luckily, our UPS guy usually comes to our house after 5PM, so I raced home and waited until he got there. At around 6:15PM the doorbell rang and there it was.

The nice thing about using the warranty exchange program is that they don’t repair your machine, they replace it with a brand new one. So once it arrived I spent the next four hours getting it set up. It actually took about half an hour to get it set up and the rest of the time was spent trying to figure out how to get the surround sound to work with the new television set. Ugh. It ended up being something really simple, but frustrated me to no end in the process.

Speaking of the new set, I’m constantly tweaking things. It’s a widescreen, high-definition set and so I want to get the best picture possible out of it. The DirecTivo system works great and for the next six months they gave us free HBO, Showtime and their HD package as a trial. The HD shows are super clear… breathtaking actually. It actually makes the standard definition programs look like crap in comparison. Also, most HD programming can be received “over the air” for free, by hooking up a simple rabbit ear antenna. Personally, I think it’s funny how, with all the advanced technology out there, we’re back to something as simple as rabbit ears. Anyone can get HD programming with an antenna and an HD-ready TV set, which is pretty cool.

It’s nice to have the DVD player back because now we can watch some movies again, and once I get the surround sound all set up correctly, it’ll be awesome. Jack that sound way up and feel like you’re IN the movie, instead of sitting there watching it happen.
